The following methods will help us remember and tell the next generation about the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord. They will also help find deeper spiritual meaning in past events and envision the Lord's activity in our present and future.
Discover the Signposts in our Life.
"Signposts are answered prayers or significant events which prove to be pivotal in the direction of our ministry and day-to-day living. At each signpost is an awareness of God's hand working behind the scenes, orchestrating a master plan and the gently pointing of our family along a certain path to acheive His plan." Edith Schaefer.
Our daily lives are brimming with signposts that God had used in a miraculous way to direct and strenthen us. Events such as your salvation, your marriage, how you got involved with your job or ministry ~ those are signpost stories that certainly have the handprint of God on them.
To help you discover more amazing signposts, here are five questions to answer. Remember, your entire family can be involved in this process.
1. When have you had an amazing rescue? Begin with childhood memories. Recall the moment of near accident or life threatening circumstances you survived. Pay special attention to illnesses from which you have recovered. All healing is a rescue.
2. When have you received a supernatural, personalized message or revelation from the Lord? One message from God can change the whole course of your life. What scriptures have greatly impacted you? Has there ever been a person who spoke just the right word to you and at just the right time? When have you said, "A light bulb just went on in my mind?" When have you said, "I just knew what I was supposed to do?" They are all personalized messages from the Lord.
3. When have you done the right thing, even when it was hard? Replay moments in your mind when you opted for purity ~ choosing good friends, giving money to charity, helping others. Including stories of this nature in your Faithbook will refresh your heart and show that you know the right path.
4. When have you received a blessing or favor on your life? Encouragement and joy is born in our hearts when we recognize and record in ablums the life-changing gift God had given us. lIst what God has given you: people you love, places that have molded you, timely provisions, promotions or privileges?
5. When have you had a valuable adversity? Sometimes, it's not until everything is stripped away that we discover the best things in life, like love, community and joy. Our most difficult moments may be some of our greatest God moments. Review your past for moments of adversity that saved you from destruction. Have you lost a job? A relationship? Or a dream? Consider all the moments you thought were failures. What became of them? How are you better because of them?
Look for the Revelations in our Life.
Revelations are sometimes unassuming events that all of a sudden hit us as evidenvce of God's hand. Sometimes you'll recieve a revelation and may not have a specific photo to go along with it. Write the story anyway and take a photo that might demonstrate your revelation. These revelations are around us and hlep us see the Lord's hand.
Identify and Acccentuate Godly Characteristics in Others.
Since qualities such as honesty, generosity, courtesy, kindness and sportsmanship are charactistics we would like to have more of, why not reinforce and document the circumstances when we demonstrate there characteristics? This is especially valuable for our children.
For example, take the opportunity at a birthday to write a letter to the person about how special they are. List the goldy character growth they have shown and include a copy of the letter in an album or as journaling.
Even in less-than-perfect situations, we can still reinforce goldy characteristics and train our children and grandchildren. By writing about a negative behavior, what was learned from the action and how a child has grown because of it, we can teach the importance of healing and growing with God.
Mission trips and fundraisers are great ways to point out the character of a servant heart. When you're looking, there are many events that can be used to point out Christ-like characteristics.
